George Lucas hat Star Wars zwar erfunden, aber Ralph McQuarrie hauchte dem Projekt Leben ein. In vielerlei Hinsicht ist er der eigentliche Erfinder. Erst durch seine Konzeptzeichnungen wurde 20th Century Fox davon überzeugt, diesem jungen Filmemacher Lucas viel Geld für seinen verrückten Film zu geben. Gestern ist Ralph McQuarrie im Alter von 82 Jahren nach einem erfüllten Leben gestorben.

McQuarrie arbeitete auch an E.T., Indiana Jones, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Battlestar Galactica, Zurück in die Zukunft, Total Recall oder Cocoon, für den er sogar den Oscar erhielt. Berthold Brecht schrieb einmal, dass der Mensch ist erst wirklich tot, wenn niemand mehr an ihn denkt. Ralph McQuarrie ist unsterblich.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of such a visionary artist and such a humble man. Ralph McQuarrie was the first person I hired to help me envision Star Wars. His genial contribution, in the form of unequaled production paintings, propelled and inspired all of the cast and crew of the original Star Wars trilogy. Unglaublich, aber wahr. Eine Billy Madison Produktion, die nicht nach kompletten Müll aussieht wie Sandlers letztes Desaster namens ‘Jack and Jill’. Adam Sandler spielt Andy Sambergs kaputten Vater, der Steuerschulden hat und gerade herausfand, dass sein entfremdeter Sohn erfolgreicher Hedgefondmanager geworden ist. Hört sich nach einem interessanten No-Brainer an und der Trailer bestätigt das auch.

Ich sehe zwar immer noch nichts von “der Wahrheit”, die Adam Sandler in einem Video bei den Oscars anpreiste, aber hey, schaut jetzt wirklich ganz OK aus. Bezüglich “dieser Wahrheit” empfehle ich folgenden wundervoll süffisanten Artikel. Hier mal ein Vorgeschmack:

Akiva Schaffer (Saturday Night Live) führt Regie im kommenden Film ‘Neighborhood Watch’ nach einem Drehbuch von Seth Rogen und Evan Goldberg (Superbad, Pineapple Express), in dem fiese Aliens die Nachbarschaft plattmachen wollen. Dagegen stellen sich Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill und Richard Ayoade (Submarine), der jetzt auch endlich mal nach dem Erfolg seines IT-Crowd Kollegen Chris O’Dowd in Hollywood durchstarten darf. Der Teaser ist ganz in Ordnung, zeigt aber noch nichts von dem verrückten Sci-Fi-Plot, was ich ganz angenehm finde. Kommt in den USA eine Woche dem Start von The Dark Knight Rises in die Kinos – das Studio muss sich also sicher sein, dass das gut wird. Die richtigen Faktoren sind schon mal am Start.
