Stranger Things needs no defending, although I’ve already given some. It’s an often regressive, mostly boring product but a lot of the criticism reads as performative in the sense that GenZers saw it in their childhood bedrooms and now think it sucks—a faux-rebellious exercise in “hip” juvenile transgression. The concept of giving two shits about Netflix in current year… I think this looks mostly fine, I guess above all very familiar and tentatively, annoyingly reiterant. It’s cool actually that they took their time in my view and it feels foreign to me having strong feelings either way. I for one am looking forward to finally seeing some horror directed by Frank Darabont again. The Duffer Brothers are good in my book just for that.
