Unterschreibe jedes Wort.
I hadn’t attempted to write anything new since ‘Autofiction’ and was trying to gain some new life experiences before doing so. I wasn’t quite ready to start the next album but knew I wanted to put out some singles this year. I was thinking about if I released a song in May, what would it sound like and within 20 minutes or so I had ‘turn’. Spring time represents rebirth for me and I was imagining the cycle of the seasons and how through our lives we gain and lose friends, experiences and what that means to be a human. Carrying these experiences through life and shaping us and our identities. Spring is a great time to shake off some baggage and enjoy what we have and look forward to brighter days.
The day I was finishing the mix on ‘turn’ I took a quick coffee break and picked up the acoustic guitar in my studio. I wrote ‘hum’ pretty much instantaneously and decided to record it really rough and put it out as a b-side. I very rarely write a whole song just on my acoustic so it was quite an exciting feeling to start recording with a full song ready. I went through an experience recently that made me take stock of some things in my life and this was the most direct response to that.
