The Plinkett Awakens… But Not in a Good Way - PewPewPew - PewPewPew

RedLetterMedia’s Mike Stoklasa once again slipped into the persona of his caricature Mr. Plinkett to blather about Star Wars. The one thing I will say about it is that it cruelly highlights the passage of time. Whereas Stoklasa once pioneered this now omnipresent genre of nerdy, long-form video criticism on YouTube, and gave voice as well as the vocabulary to pathetic manchildren, he can now only present the reheated talking points – a supercut of ten years of sequel-hate – from the followers he inspired years ago.

Well, okay, maybe more than one thing: It’s just so disappointing how shockingly tone-deaf it all is despite an obvious cutback of the character’s usual antics. While Mr. Plinkett was originally skating off crude chud-forum vibes of the late oughts, this tired old schtick now feels wholly misplaced, and so blindly out-of-touch. Or maybe I am and this is coming back horseshoe-style? Some folks are apparently eager to bring back the word ‘retard,’ so what do I know?

Anyway, a proper sad watch! Not so much for what is said but more so what it is not. I never fully agreed with his take on the prequels, and today fully reject many of his bad-faith attacks and skewed views. But at least it felt entertaining and fresh back in the day. Now it increasingly seems like the confusion of the character has seeped into its creator’s mind. Welp, it happens.
