Alan Moore will, dass wir schlechte Bücher lesen – um dann selbst bessere schreiben zu wollen. Exzellenter Ratschlag, den ich mir schon beim Bloggen, Podcasten oder Fotografieren seit vielen Jahren hinter die Ohren geschrieben habe. Besonders in den Anfangszeiten beim Bloggen habe ich häufig andere, größere Kulturblogs im Reader verfolgt, obwohl ich die gar nicht mochte; nur um zu sehen, was ich nicht bloggen sollte bzw. was gerade bei Normies abgefeiert wird. Dressed Like Machines wäre da ein gutes Beispiel für einen schlechten Blog, der nur Internethighlights ohne Persönlichkeit, Kommentar oder Insight wiederkäute, obwohl ich den Willy eigentlich ganz spannend fand als Person. Aber ich verhedder mich hier. Alan Moore macht bei der BBC Maestro-Reihe mit, so ein Abklatsch dieser Masterclasses, und teilt seine Erfahrungen sowie Ansichten zum Storytelling mit uns. Und leider, obwohl es von der BBC produziert ist, kostet das wieder knapp hundert Euro.

Alan Moore hat es satt. Die beschissenen Comicverfilmungen wie ‘Die Liga der außergewöhnlichen Gentlemen’ kann er ja noch irgendwie seelisch verkraften, aber wenn die Leute sich an seine heilige Graphic Novel Bibel ‘Watchmen’, dem wohl besten Comic aller Zeiten, ranmachen, versteht er keinen Spaß mehr. Also dachte er sich: Wenn andere Leute sich an meinen Charakteren zu schaffen machen, kann ich das auch.

Im kommenden letzten Band der Trilogie um von The League wird sich Moore wieder literarischen Charaktere annehmen, was für die Serie ja nichts neues ist, aber Harry Potter ist schon etwas kontrovers, insbesondere, wenn er, wie The Independent berichtet, als Antichrist dargestellt wird und Leute mit Blitzen aus seinem schlaffen Penis umlegt.

Though the words “Harry Potter” are never mentioned, the allusions are unmistakable. One section features a magical train hidden between platforms at King’s Cross station which leads to a magical school. The Antichrist character has a hidden scar and a mentor named Riddle. (Lord Voldemort, born Tom Riddle, is Harry Potter’s arch enemy in the Potter series.) Characters resembling both Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger also appear and, at one point, the Potter character kills someone with a lightning bolt from his flaccid penis.

Es ist wohl Moores Art mit ‘Before Watchmen‘-Serie, die Hintergrundgeschichten zu seinen Charakteren erzählt, die er immer nur andeutete, klarzukommen. Darüber sagte er ja mal in einem Interview:

What the comics industry has effectively said is, “Yes, this was the only book that made us briefly special and that was because it wasn’t like all the other books.” It was something that stood on its own and it had the integrity of a literary work. What they’ve decided now is, “So, let’s change it to a regular comic that can run indefinitely and have spin-offs.” and “Let’s make it as unexceptional as possible.” Like I say, they’re doing this because they haven’t got any other choices left, evidently.

Ich bin Team Moore und bin mal gespannt, ob die Anwälte von Warner Bros. und Scholastic so entspannt sind und Moore damit durchkommen lassen werden.

Comic-Legende Alan Moore findet, dass Bibliotheken wichtig sind, sie ihn zu dem gemacht haben, was er heute ist und dass man sie retten sollte. Hier gibt es eine etwas längere Rede von dem guten Mann.
